"I like to put these washers in all my builds. I like brass nipples, and putting these on keeps the nipple away from the aluminum rims. They play nice with with brass and create a large surface area against the aluminum rims. It also makes me feel better about the stress on the spoke holes in the carbon rims. Be sure to factor in their thickness when choosing spoke lengths."
