Great SPD alternatives with a few caveats

"First off, I want to say that I am probably going to switch over all of my pedals to Time ones. XC on my XC and gravel bikes, the MX ones on my trail bikes. They offer great value and I enjoy how they work, but I do have a few small complaints. First, the pros: 1. Great value - if you're a weight-conscious rider like I am, you'll quickly find that Time pedals are much lighter than their Shimano counterparts, especially for the cost. For example, these XC 6 pedals are 289g for the pair, while Shimano XTRs, which are almost double the price, come in at 310g for the pair. 2. Increased float definitely helps with knee pain - I sometimes get knee pain on just my right knee and the Time pedals allow me to adjust the angle of my ankle just enough to lessen this. 3. Positive "click!" lets you know that you are in - there is no mistaking that you are clipped in. The click is loud and obvious. 4. Looks - I think these look great. Cons / Concerns: 1. This is the biggest one - the stupid plastic release tension adjustment screw. I do not know what Time was thinking - the screw is plastic (dumb), requires a flathead (dumb), and set at the lowest setting from the factory, so if you go to adjust the release tension and do not know that it is already at the lowest setting, you'll quickly break this little plastic screw. Thankfully, Time was willing to replace my pedal for me (great customer service), but a metal hex-head screw would be such an easy solution. They, in fact, use this on their MX pedals, not sure why they can't on the XC pedals too. 2. Needs to break in - on my first ride with these, I could barely unclip one of my feet. I thought I needed to adjust the release tension, which is why I had the whole plastic screw fiasco. However, after just 2 rides, the release tension was perfect using the included 13 degree cleats. They just needed to break in. Not really a con, but something to be aware of. All in all, I love these pedals, but as a Time newbie, I would have liked to know the things above."
