Ibis HD6 - Ultimate Enduro Machine
The Ibis HD6 represents the pinnacle of enduro bike design, evolving from one of the most successful platforms in mountain biking history. Born from the collaboration with the Enduro World Cup team and building on the strengths of the award-winning Ripmo and HD lines, the HD6 is designed to dominate the most demanding trails with its enhanced travel, innovative suspension layout, and mixed wheel configuration.
Frame & Geometry
- Frame Size: Large
- Frame Color: Traffic Cone Orange
- Frame Material: Lightweight Premium Carbon
- Weight: Sub 6 lbs (without shock)
- Rear Suspension Travel: 165mm
- Front Suspension Travel: 180mm
-
Geometry:
- Head Tube Angle: 64 degrees (one degree slacker than the Ripmo, improving stability)
- Bottom Bracket Height: Similar to the Mojo HD5 for a balanced center of gravity
- Chainstay Length: Same as the Ripmo, maintaining agility despite the 27.5" rear wheel
- Seat Tube Angle: Progressive, steepening with larger frame sizes to ensure optimal rider positioning
The HD6’s geometry strikes a fine balance between stability and agility. The 29" front wheel provides unmatched stability through rough terrain, while the 27.5" rear wheel offers nimble handling and quick directional changes. This mixed wheel setup allows for precise control, particularly in tight and technical sections.
Suspension System
-
Suspension Layout: DW-Link
- Rear Shock: 2024 FOX FLOAT X2 Factory Series, 230mm x 65mm, featuring advanced damping controls for exceptional support and small bump sensitivity
- Fork: 2024 FOX 38 Factory Series, 180mm travel, with GRIP2 damper offering high and low-speed compression and rebound adjustments
The DW-Link suspension platform, combined with the custom-tuned FOX components, ensures that the HD6 climbs with efficiency and descends with confidence. The bike’s suspension has been fine-tuned for traction, with light high-speed compression and rebound damping allowing the wheels to track the ground with precision, mimicking the smoothness of a trophy truck over whoops.
Drivetrain
- Shifters: SRAM Eagle AXS Pod Controller – Wireless shifting with precise, instant gear changes
- Crankset: SRAM GX DUB Wide T-Type, 170mm cranks optimized for stiffness and power transfer
- Chainrings: SRAM T-Type 32T, designed for compatibility with the 12-speed drivetrain
- Chain: SRAM GX T-Type, durable and smooth for high-performance shifting under load
- Cassette: SRAM XG-1275, 10-52T, offering a massive gear range for steep climbs and fast descents
- Rear Derailleur: SRAM GX AXS T-Type 12-Speed, featuring robust construction and precise shifting performance
This drivetrain is built to handle the rigors of enduro racing, with components selected for their durability, smooth operation, and ability to perform under the most demanding conditions.
Wheels & Tires
- Front Wheel: 29", Ibis BlackBird Send 1 Aluminum Rim, with Sapim D-Light J-bend spokes and Sapim double square nipples, tubeless setup for lower weight and improved puncture resistance
- Rear Wheel: 27.5", Ibis BlackBird Send 2 Aluminum Rim, similarly equipped with Sapim D-Light spokes, ensuring a consistent and strong build
- Front Tire: Maxxis Assegai 3C MaxGrip EXO+ TR, 29 x 2.5WT – Known for its aggressive tread pattern and superior grip in loose and wet conditions
- Rear Tire: Maxxis Minion DHR II 3C MaxxGrip Double Down TR, 27.5" x 2.4WT – A tire designed for maximum traction and control in varied terrain
The mixed wheel setup combines the rolling efficiency and traction of a larger front wheel with the agility and acceleration of a smaller rear wheel, making the HD6 versatile across different trail conditions.
Braking System
- Brakes: SRAM Code RSC, 4-piston calipers with adjustable reach and swinglink technology for consistent power and modulation
- Brake Rotors: SRAM Centerline, 200mm front and rear, providing ample stopping power for steep descents
The braking system on the HD6 is designed for control and reliability, ensuring you can confidently tackle the steepest trails without worrying about brake fade or lack of power.
Cockpit & Controls
- Handlebar: Ibis 800mm Carbon Hi Fi Bar, wide and stiff for maximum control in technical terrain
- Stem: Industry Nine A318, 50mm, CNC machined for precision and durability
- Grips: Lizard Skins Charger Lock-on, providing a comfortable and secure grip with Ibis clamps
- Seatpost: Bike Yoke, 34.9 x 185mm Dropper Post, with internal routing for a clean look and reliable operation
- Saddle: WTB Silverado Medium CrMo, chosen for its comfort and support on long rides
The cockpit is designed for aggressive riding, with a focus on control and rider comfort. The wide handlebar and short stem combination provide quick handling, while the dropper post allows for easy adjustments on the fly, making transitions between climbing and descending seamless.
Additional Features
- Internal Cable Routing: The HD6 features fully internal cable routing, using carbon fiber tubes molded within the frame for easy maintenance and a clean aesthetic.
- Protection: The frame is equipped with a thick rubber downtube protector to deflect debris, a chainstay protector to reduce chain slap noise, and linkage protectors to keep the suspension system clean and free of debris.
- Lifetime Warranty: Ibis offers a lifetime warranty on the frame, including free lifetime replacement of the IGUS bushings used in the lower link. These bushings are lighter and stiffer than traditional bearings and are virtually maintenance-free.
The Ibis HD6 is not just a bike; it’s a finely tuned instrument for conquering the most challenging enduro courses. Every aspect of the bike, from its advanced suspension design to its precise drivetrain, is engineered to deliver unparalleled performance on the trail. Whether you're racing or just riding for the thrill of it, the HD6 is built to take on anything you can throw at it.
