The Ride:
The Reserve 27 is designed to debunk the myth that carbon wheels are not for mountain biking. Paired with any of our ISO hubs, which feature 72-points of simultaneous-engagement, the Reserve 27 is ready to climb as fast as it descends.
The Rim:
Santa Cruz set strength and impact resistance as their highest priority, and backed it with a LIFETIME WARRANTY, but strength doesn't have to mean uncomfortably stiff. Reserve rims are compliant and responsive. Everything from the thickness of rim beads to external spoke hole reinforcements comes purely from Santa Cruz’ experience of knowing what riders need at every level—from international racing to your local trails. The Reserve 27 is built for 2.0-2.5in tires and weighs in at 455g per rim.
Let’s talk about the warranty: lifetime, no gimmicks, not limited. If you do actually manage to break a Reserve rim while out riding, Santa Cruz will replace it for free. And probably high five you in the process! If it gets run over by a truck they'll help you out with a low cost accidental 'crash replacement'.
The Hubs:
Chris King ISO hubs are designed as precision mountain tools. We use one-piece solid axles to provide a stiff hub with rail accurate steering, transferring every minute adjustment you make to the trail. To thwart mud, water, and contaminants as you power through rough trails, ISO hubs have heavy-duty bearing seals, and a threaded driveshell seal ring.
Our bearings, available in steel and ceramic, surgical grade steel races that are machined simultaneously to ensure perfectly matched inner and outer races. The quality and speed of our bearings are what sets us apart from the competition and they are what you will feel and notice on every single ride. As Chris King bearing tracks burnish they get faster with age and all our hubs and bearings are fully serviceable for years upon years of demanding use.
