The Tallboy was Santa Cruz' first 29er, and reflected the way they wanted 29ers to ride – fast and fun. For their second iteration, they doubled down on this idea, and made what amounts to a screamer of an XC bike that still feels right at home on real trails. Features like the ISCG 05 tabs, the 142mm thru-axle in the rear, and routing for dropper posts may not have been the first things on the list for most full-suspension cross-country bikes, but Santa Cruz felt they were all must-haves, and you'll find them all on the Tallboy. Out back, there’s 100mm of VPP-controlled travel, and they've tuned the shock rate to provide an efficient but smooth ride. When paired with a 120mm fork, it offers traction and control in spades.
This alloy version of the Tallboy includes all the features you'll find on their C and CC-level carbon frames, but in an attractive, strong, aluminum package. It's also available in sizes Small through XL, but there is an XXL size offered in the carbon fiber models.
